In 1850, the Clinton Board of Selectmen was delegated the responsibility to "... keep in suitable repair all Highways, Townways, Causeways, and Bridges, within the limits of the Town of Clinton."

Today the Road Department is responsible for the maintenance of 50 miles of public roads including snow plowing & sanding, catch basin cleaning, installation of street signs, street sweeping, line painting, & rubbish disposal.
