Upon incorporation of the Town in 1850, the Clinton
Cemetery Committee was established to construct, operate, and
maintain the public burial ground known as Woodlawn Cemetery for
the citizens of Clinton. In the same year, the Board of Selectmen
was appointed the duty "...to take care of all trees which
may be standing on or growing for ornament or use within the limits
of the public highways or streets, or public lands of the Town."
Today the Tree and Cemetery Department is responsible for the
operation and maintenance of both the historic Woodlawn Cemetery
and the modern Reservoir Pines Cemetery.
